2012 Hall of Fame Class
ADA – Three new members will be inducted into the East Central University Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the ECU men’s home basketball game with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 25th.
That trio includes former women’s basketball star Stormy Griffith, ex-football standout Terry Summers and Ron Miller, former head softball and assistant football coach.
The ceremony will take place at halftime of the 7:30 p.m. men’s game. The women’s game will tip off prior to that at 5:30 p.m.
STORMY GRIFFITH
Women’s Basketball (2000-04)
Griffith is East Central’s all-time leading scorer with 1,759 points.
She nabbed several awards during her playing career for head coach Kent Franz.
As a sophomore in 2001-02, Griffith earned a Daktronics South Central First Team All-Region award as well as being selected as an honorable mention All-American after averaging 19.4 points.
During her junior season, she was an All-Lone Star Conference North Second Team pick after sporting 13.3 scoring and 3.9 rebounding averages.
Finally as a senior, Griffith averaged 16.4 points and 6.5 rebounds in being named an All-LSC North First Team honoree.
Four times in her career, Griffith scored 30 or more points in a single game. Her career-best scoring effort came as a sophomore when she poured in 40, two points short of a school record, in an overtime victory at the University of Central Oklahoma in 2001-02.
Her other three 30-plus scoring efforts came during her senior year – 32 in a loss to Angelo State, 33 in a win at Southeastern Oklahoma State and 31 in a career-ending LSC Tournament loss at Abilene Christian.
For her career, Griffith averaged 17.4 points and 6.0 rebounds.
She played her high school basketball at Prague, where she was a member of a state championship team in 2000.
TERRY SUMMERS
Football (1985-86)
Summers spent two years in the East Central football program after transferring in from the University of Oklahoma.
As a senior in 1986, he was selected to the All-NAIA District 9 First Team and the All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference First Team for his efforts as a defensive tackle in which he posted 50 tackles, including 42 solos to go with 11 stops for lost yards.
Summers was an honorable mention All-OIC pick as a junior after registering 44 tackles, including 23 solo efforts.
He attended the training camps for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs.
RON MILLER
Coaching
Miller was ECU’s first coach of the softball program in 1995 while earning three Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year awards in 1997, 1998 and 1999.
He guided the Lady Tiger softball program to over 200 victories in 12 seasons and coached one player, Cherene Heisl, who was named an All-American and ultimately became a member of the Canadian National Softball Team. Heisl is also a member of the ECU Athletic Hall of Fame.
Miller was named Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference Softball Coach of the Year in 1995 after guiding the program’s initial team to a conference championship. ECU later nabbed an LSC North Division title in 1999.
Miller came to ECU as an assistant football coach in 1977. Miller served as a defensive line coach, offensive line coach and offensive coordinator under head coaches Pat O’Neal and Hank Walbrick until 1997.
He was offensive coordinator, under Walbrick, during the school’s first and only football national championship in 1993. He also directed the offense during a 1992 conference championship season.
Miller was part of eight conference titles as an assistant football coach for the Tigers.
He played his collegiate football at Cameron University.
