Volleyball Falls 0-3 on the Road at Southwestern

Senior Danielle Essix tallied 13 kills and nine digs against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Box Score WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team fell 0-3 (16-25, 17-25, 18-25) to Southwestern Oklahoma State on the road in Great American Conference action.

The Lady Tigers (10-16, 7-5 GAC) were led by senior Danielle Essix, who tallied 13 kills and nine digs.

The opening set was a close battle at the start.  After a five-all tie ECU used a 6-1 run to take an 11-8 advantage on the scoreboard.  However, the Bulldogs (11-81, 7-5 GAC) fought back and used several small runs to get within two (16-14).  That is when SWOSU really took control, using an 11-0 run for the 16-25 win.

The Bulldogs pulled out to an early 1-3 advantage in the second set and kept pushing the momentum in their favor with small runs throughout the set.  SWOSU pushed through for a 17-25 win.

The final set started with SWOSU again opening with an early lead, this time 0-3.  The Bulldogs pushed the lead out to 1-9 and never let the Lady Tigers get closer than five points the rest of the set and earned an 18-25 win.

The teams were close in many categories on the box score, including a .202 (35k-16e-94ta) to .267 (39k-12e-101ta) hitting percentages mark.  The key difference came at the service line where the Bulldogs tallied 13 service aces to zero by the Lady Tigers.

ECU will return home for the final two home matches of the 2013 season.  The Lady Tigers will first host Ouachita Baptist, Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. and then Southern Nazarene, Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. for the annual Senior Night.
