Athletic Training Policies
General Information
The athletic training area at East Central University provides athletic health care for all men and women intercollegiate student-athletes, cheerleaders, pom squad members, student-coaches, student-athletic trainers, and student-managers. To keep this document short all of the individuals mentioned in the last sentence will hereby be referred to as student-athletes.
The main athletic training room is located on the bottom floor of the Kerr Athletic Center (KAC) in room 122. The main athletic training room is staffed by nationally certified and state licensed athletic trainers, each of whom is assigned to various athletic teams.
The athletic trainers work in conjunction with team physicians to provide comprehensive athletic health care, ranging from emergency first aid and injury evaluation to rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Athletic Training Services Offered
East Central University Athletic Training is interested in the physical and emotional well-being of its student-athletes as well as their athletic, intellectual, and cultural development.
1.    Prevention of Athletic Injuries/Illnesses. This will only occur if athletes are in the appropriate shape necessary for their sport and are willing to properly hydrate and fuel their bodies.
2.    Recognition and Evaluation of Athletic Injuries/Illnesses. Any time a student-athlete is injured or ill it is imperative that they immediately report this injury/illness to the athletic trainer in charge of their sport so that appropriate medical care can be given. ECU team physicians will make the final determination regarding the student-athlete's medical status and ability to participate (practice and/or competition).
3.    Rehabilitation and Treatment of Athletic Injuries/Illnesses. All rehabilitation and/or treatment prescribed by an ECU team physician will be carried out in the Kerr Center Athletic Training Room, unless otherwise noted by the caring physician.
4.    Patient Education. If the coach desires and the athletic trainers schedule allows, a member of the athletic training staff will come to team meetings to address the team about the services provided from the athletic training room.
