Volleyball Earns 3-2 Win Over Ouachita Baptist

Senior Ashley Williams tallied a .545 (15k-3e-22ta) hitting percentage against Ouachita Baptist.
Box Score ADA – The East Central University volleyball team fought back to earn a 3-2 (15-25, 25-14, 25-18, 16-25, 15-9) win over Ouachita Baptist at the Kerr Activities Center in Great American Conference action.

Both sets of Lady Tigers were tied at 7-5 in the GAC standings heading into the match, with ECU pulling head going into the final week of the regular season.

The Lady Tigers (11-16, 8-5 GAC) saw double-digit kill performances from three players, with a total of three players earning double-doubles.  Senior Danielle Essix tallied 18 kills as 12 digs, while senior Noelle Cope added 18 kills and 13 digs.  Senior Ashley Williams contributed 15 kills and hit .545 (15k-3e-22ta) for the night.  The final double-double was recorded by senior Jessica Wilkinson with 54 assists and 12 digs.

OBU opened the first set with a 9-2 run to take control of the set.  After the initial run both teams kept the score close, but the advantage was all that was need as OBU earned the 15-25 win.

It was ECU's turn to jump out to an early 6-1 lead.  OBU was only able to get as close as three in the set, as ECU pushed through for the 25-14 win.

The third set started out close, with five ties and three lead changes before either team reached double-digits.  The final tie came at nine-all when ECU went on a 7-1 run to take control for good.  OBU was unable to score more than two points in a row for the rest of the set, as ECU earned the 25-18 win.

OBU regained the momentum in the fourth set, jumping out to a 1-4 advantage.  The match was close most of the way until a few late runs by OBU pushed them to a 16-25 win to force the fifth-and-deciding set.

ECU did not let OBU continue their momentum into the fifth set, as they pushed out to a 5-1 advantage.  ECU didn't allow OBU to score more than one-point at a time the rest of the match earned the 15-9 win.

ECU was strong offensively, hitting .246 (63k-21e-171ta) as a team and allowing OBU to hit just .170 (53k-25e-165ta).

The Lady Tigers will now be idle until Thursday, Nov. 14 when they host Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. for the final GAC game of the 2013 season.  The match will also be the annual Senior Night, where ECU will honor its seven seniors: Taylor Brown, Noelle Cope, Danielle Essix, Sarah nelson, Kennedy Riley, Ashley Williams and Jessica Wilkinson.
