Lady Tigers Earn 75-71 Win Over Northwestern

Box Score ADA – The East Central University women's basketball team started its three-game home stand with a 75-71 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Kerr Activities Center in hard fought Great American Conference action.

The Lady Tigers (8-5, 3-4 GAC) saw an all-around effort, with no player scoring less than five points and four tallying double-digit totals.  Junior Dilan Webster led the team with 15 points and added eight rebounds, while fellow junior Erin Walling contributed 14 points.  Redshirt freshman Jalyn Jackson led ECU in the rebounding column for the second-straight game, with 10 (8 offensive).

The opening 20 minutes was a back-and-forth battle, with eight ties and 10 lead changes.  The Lady Tigers started the game on a 4-0 run, but saw the game quickly tied at six in the first four minutes.  The Rangers (1-11, 1-5 GAC) used a 6-0 run in a little over a minute to gain the lead, with just under 14 minutes to play.

ECU kept fighting a forced a tie at 20 four minutes later.  Both teams traded runs over the next six minutes, which resulted in a tie at 40, with 3:30 left to play.  That is when the Lady Tigers went to work and used an 8-2 run to end the half with a 48-42 lead.

ECU started the second half as it ended the first, going on a 10-2 run to push its lead out to 14 (58-44) in the first four minutes of action.  The Lady Tigers kept the lead around 8-10 points for the next four minutes.  With 12 minutes remaining, NWOSU made a push and cut the lead to two (65-63) with a 10-2 run over a three-minute span.

The Rangers kept fighting and forced a 66-all tie with 4:22 left.  The teams continued to battle and saw a final tie at 70, with 2:33 left on the clock.  That is when the Lady Tiger's defense kicked in and only allowed NWOSU to score one point in the final minutes, while adding five to their total for the 75-71 win.

The final box score reflected the tight battle on the court, with NWOSU hitting 47.8 percent (22-of-46) its overall shots to ECU's 45.9 percent (28-of-61).  The Rangers also earned a 10-of-18 to 5-of-16 advantage in three-point shooting.  However, the Lady Tigers claimed a key 42-23 lead on the glass, including a 20-5 mark on the offensive side.  That led to a 16-6 advantage in second chance points.

ECU will remain at home for a Saturday, Jan. 11 match up with Southwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m.   The game in the annual Family Night sponsored by Mercy Hospital of Ada, where a family of four receives admission for just $5.
