BETHANY, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team fell to Southern Nazarene 0-3 (19-25, 20-25, 18-25) in Great American Conference road action.
The Tigers (3-19, 0-9 GAC) were led by freshman
Mackenzie Davis, who tallied a .500 (6k-1e-10ta) hitting percentage and three block assists. Freshman Madison Gill also added five kills, seven digs and two block assists.
The opening set saw the team's trade 3-0 runs for a tie at three. However, that is when the Crimson Storm (13-6, 6-3 GAC) went on a 5-0 run to pull ahead for good (3-8). The Tigers pushed back with a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to two (7-9), but were unable to get any closer the rest of the set. SNU kept pushing the momentum and were lead 16-24 before a final three-point run by ECU held off set point before the final score of 19-25.
The second set started as a battle for control, with six tie scores before either team could take control. The Crimson Storm were the first to gain momentum and used an 8-0 run to take an 8-16 lead. That was all SNU would need to earn the victory, as they went on to win 20-25.
The third set was closer, but the Tigers still trailed throughout the set. This time the deficit was kept between three and five points until a late push gave SNU a seven point lead, 13-20. ECU kept fighting and traded the next few serves, but fell 18-25.
ECU will return to action Friday, Oct. 17 for the second of three-straight road matches when they face Ouachita Baptist at 6 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Ark.
