ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – After trailing most of the first half, the East Central University women's basketball team moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Great American Conference with a 67-46 win over Henderson State at the Duke Wells Center.

"We had a well-rounded effort today," said head coach
Matt Cole. "Being able to count on everybody to step up, especially with people in foul trouble early was influential in today's win."
ECU was the first to get on the scoreboard, on a three from senior
Janee Garza, but the Reddies (1-3, 0-2 GAC) countered with an 8-0 run to gain the advantage. The Tigers kept pushing and cut the deficit to one (7-8) with 12:40 left to play, but again saw HSU jump back out to a larger lead with a 7-2 run (9-15) over the next three minutes.
ECU fought back and this time tied the game at 18, with 6:45 left to play. The teams then traded the next two baskets before the Reddies hit two-straight, for a four-point advantage and four minutes left on the clock. However, this time the Tigers battled back and didn't let up, using a 9-2 run in the final minutes to take a 29-26 lead into the locker room.
ECU continued to increase the pressure in the start of the second half, scoring the first four points in the opening minute. The teams traded points over the next five minutes before the Tigers really took control and used a 16-1 run over a six-minute span to push ahead 58-37 with 6:15 to play. ECU never let up and pushed through for a 67-46 victory.
The Tigers earned the win with a 42.6 (26-of-61) shooting percentage and a 35.3 (6-of-17) three-point shooting percentage for the day. The Reddies shot 38.6 (17-of-44) percent from the field and just 11.8 (2-of-17) percent from beyond the arc. ECU also took care of the ball on their possessions, committing just nine turnovers to 22 by HSU.
The Tigers will finally get to play their first game of the year at the Kerr Activities Center in their next contest, Tuesday, Nov. 25 when they welcome Cameron to town for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
