Second Half Surge Falls Just Short Against Southwestern

Box Score BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. – After trailing by 21 points in the first three minutes of the second half, the East Central University women's basketball team's second half come-back attempt fell just short against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Great American Conference Tournament semifinals.  The Lady Tigers ended their season with an 83-87 loss at Bruin Fieldhouse.

The Lady Tigers, who finished the season 19-9, saw four players finish with double digits in the points column, with junior Dilan Webster leading the team with 17 points and eight rebounds.  Senior Alycea Price added 16 points and eight boards, junior Erin Walling contributed 15 points and senior Ashley Robison tallied 14 points and seven rebounds.

After starting the second half down 16, ECU saw the Lady Bulldogs (19-10) push out to a 21-point advantage in the first three minutes of the second stanza.  However, that is when the Lady Tigers started their fight. 

ECU first cut the deficit to 13 (46-59) with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes.  SWOSU kept its advantage around 12-15 points for the next two minutes before 6-0 Lady Tiger's run cut the lead to nine.

ECU kept fighting and used a 5-0 and 9-3 run over the next five minutes to trail 71-77, with 5:15 left to play.  The teams again battled over the next three minutes before a final push was started by the Lady Tigers.  ECU went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to just one (81-82), with 47 seconds left on the clock.

However, the lady Bulldogs made the most of their free throws in the final seconds to earn an 83-87 win.

The opening two minutes were all about defense as ECU was held scoreless until 18:35 and SWOSU was held without a field goal until 17:49 remained in the stanza.  However, once they scored the Lady Bulldogs used a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 7-14 lead.

SWOSU held the lead between seven to nine points for the next three minutes before a 4-0 run by the Lady Tigers cut the deficit to five (17-21).  The Bulldogs followed with an 8-2 run to build the lead out to double-digits with seven minutes left to play.

ECU followed with an 8-3 run over the next 4:30 to cut the disadvantage to seven (32-39), but SWOSU finished the half on a 9-0 run for a 32-48 lead at the intermission.
