Box Score MONTICELLO, ARK. – The East Central University volleyball team suffered a 0-3 (20-25, 21-25, 18-25) loss at Arkansas-Monticello in Great American Conference action.
The Tigers (3-12, 0-4 GAC) were led by freshman
Mackenzie Davis, who tallied a .238 (7k-2e-21ta) hitting percentage. Fellow freshman
Madyson Gill added a team-high 10 kills and eight digs, while redshirt freshman
Dahyana Essix lead the team on defense with 18 digs.
ECU fell behind early in the opening set (1-4), but rebounded to tie the set at four and take a 5-4 lead. The teams then traded points for ties from five to 10. That is when the Cotton Blossoms went on a 7-1 run to take control of the scoreboard. That was all they needed as they pulled through for a 20-25 win.
The second set started with three tie scores before a 4-1 and 10-2 run by UAM pushed them ahead 8-17. The Tigers kept fighting and cut the disadvantage to five (16-21), with a 5-0 run, but it was not enough to pull out the win before falling 21-25.
The third set was almost all Cotton Blossoms, as they pulled out to a 4-8 lead. ECU used a few small runs throughout the set, but was unable to pull closer than three points before falling 18-25.
The Tigers will continue on their weekend road trip with a stop in Magnolia, Ark., to battle with Southern Arkansas, Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
