WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – After having a week off, the East Central University women's basketball team dropped a 54-64 decision on the road to Southwestern Oklahoma State at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

The teams traded points in the first 2:30 minutes of the game before ECU used a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 16-6 advantage. The Bulldogs (7-11, 4-8 GAC) fought back over the next 7:30 minutes and cut the deficit to one (23-22), with just under six minutes remaining.
The battle then resumed for control with only nine points scored by both teams the rest of the half. The Tigers used a 5-0 run until 1:10 remained to push the lead back out to six (28-22), but SWOSU ended the half on a 4-0 run to cut the disadvantage to two (28-26) heading into the intermission.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half and used a 9-2 run in the first 3:30 to take the lead for the first time (30-35). The Tigers fought back to tie the game at 37, with 13:10 left, but a 13-0 run by SWOSU until 6:05 gave then the advantage.
ECU didn't give up the fight and cut the disadvantage to six (52-58), with 1:13 to play on a 13-3 run. The Tigers kept up the pressure in the final minute, but fell 54-64.
The game came down to a few free throws and extra made baskets. The Bulldogs went 14-of-18 from the line, while ECU was held to an 8-of-14 mark. SWOSU also hit three more shots from the floor (23-20).
The Tigers will now return home for two-straight home games at the Kerr Activities Center. ECU will first host Henderson State, Thursday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. and then Arkansas-Monticello, Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
