ADA – The East Central University volleyball team will be the first team to play during the 2015 Homecoming week, as they are set to face Langston, Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Kerr Activities Center. The Tigers will also face Oklahoma Baptist, Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Great American Conference action.
ECU picked up its first conference win of the 2015 season last weekend with a 3-2 win over Arkansas-Monticello at home. Sophomore
Madeline Mayer had a strong performance for the Tigers in the match, hitting .583 (15k-1e-24ta) and adding two block assists.
Langston comes into this week's game with a 4-20 overall record and 3-8 mark in the Red River Conference in the NAIA. The Lions have already played Northwestern once and Southwestern twice this season and lost to both GAC opponents. LU has a .036 team hitting percentage and its opponents have not done much better, with a .192.
Amber Warren is the top hitter for the Lions, with a .142 (179k-104e-530ta) mark. She also adds 25 service aces, 136 digs and 63 (28-35) blocks. Mia Allmon has 111 kills, 133 digs and 19 (4-15) blocks.
Tuesday's meeting will be the second in the all-time series, with ECU falling 2-3 in the first meeting Sept. 13, 2014 at the Kerr Activities Center.
Oklahoma Baptist is 14-11 overall and 9-2 in the GAC and will have had almost a week off before coming to town. The Bison's last match was Friday, Oct. 23 when they defeated Harding 3-1. OKBU has a team hitting percentage of .170, but is allowing just a .184 mark by the opposition.
Priscila Mendes are Cat Roth are two of the key players to watch for the Bison. Mendez has 216 kills, 89 digs and 14 (1-13) blocks, while hitting .150 (216k-102e-760ta). Roth adds a .267 (209k-62e-547ta) attack percentage, 15 aces, 70 digs and 62 (5-57) blocks.
