ADA – The East Central University football team won its fourth-straight game, with a 42-30 decision over Northwestern Oklahoma State in Great American Conference action at Koi Ishto Stadium.
Photo GalleryThe Tigers (4-1, 4-1 GAC) escaped a wild air attack from both teams that saw 108 total pass attempts, 748 total passing yards and 10 total interceptions.
Senior
Rocky Moore went 12-of-38 and threw three interceptions, while Ranger (1-4, 1-4 GAC) quarterback Reid Miller was 42-of-69 with seven interceptions for the night.
Junior
David Moore connected on four passes for 185 total yards and two touchdowns, while eight other ECU players caught a pass in the game. Freshman
Tre'von Jackson was the top rusher with 66 yards and a TD in eight attempts. Jackson also added 14 receiving yards in the game for 80 all-purpose yards.
The ECU defense was led by senior
Jameel Whitney with 13 (6-7) total tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss, a pass break up and an interception for 38 yards. Senior
Karmah Yates added five (2-3) tackles, 2.0 sacks, 2.5 TFL and four quarterback hurries.
The Tiger defense had three players earn two interceptions each, with junior
Mariano Dillard getting two for 46 yards, junior Dar-ray Jubilee two for three yards and freshman
Blake Summers two for 35 yards.
ECU jumped out to an early lead, with the Moore's connecting for a 77-yard TD on the first offensive play of the game. Senior
Juwan Dotson then added a 20-yard TD catch for a 14-0 lead, with 9:33 left in the first quarter.
The Rangers cut the lead in half before the end of the quarter with a TD and then made it 14-10 with 14:03 left in the 2
nd quarter on a 19-yard field goal.
ECU responded less than a minute later with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Dotson for a 21-10 advantage.
NWOSU cut the deficit to 17-21 with a TD late in the second quarter, but it was the Tigers who got the final points of the half, with a TD pass from
Rocky Moore to senior
Nathan Pickett with 53 seconds left to push the lead back to 28-17.
The Rangers were the only team to score in the third quarter, with a touchdown at 6:39 that cut the advantage to 28-24.
With 13:46 left in the fourth, Jackson scored his TD on a 39-yard run to increase the lead to 35-24.
NWOSU got in one more touchdown with 9:06 left in the game, but
David Moore capped off his night with an 80-yard passing touchdown that was caught around mid-field and he bounced off a defender and then rushed past rest for a 42-30 final.
The Tigers will now head back out on the road for a Saturday, Oct. 10 game at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla.
