Volleyball Falls in Final Match of 2015 Season

ADA – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (21-25, 19-25, 14-25) decision to Southeastern Oklahoma State in its final match of the 2015 season.

The Tigers (7-21, 2-14 GAC) honored its two seniors before the start of the match in Hayley Gerken and Sarah Simpson.  Gerken tallied three kills, four service aces and a block solo in the match adding onto most of her already career numbers for ECU.  Simpson tallied five kills and seven digs.

The Tigers were led by sophomore Madeline Mayer, with eight kills and a .412 (8k-1e-17ta) hitting percentage.

The Savage Storm (7-22, 5-11 GAC) opened the first set by taking a 0-2 advantage and held on to the lead all the way through the set.  ECU kept the score close until a 5-0 run gave SE a 10-17 advantage. 

The Savage Storm then moved out to a 15-24 lead, but the Tigers were not done fighting and held off six set points to get the match to 21-24, but ended up falling 21-25.

The second set was a tight battle with seven ties and four lead changes.  With the score knotted at 16, SE went on a 5-1 run to take the necessary advantage and ended up winning 19-25.

The third set start out close with the teams trading the first six serves.  However, it was again the Savage Storm who pulled away with a13-5 run to take control for good.  SE kept pushing the tempo through the end of the set, taking the 14-25 win.

Gerken leaves the Tigers holding career records for service aces (103), block solos (56), block assists (299), and total blocks (355).  She is also ranked in the top-10 in six other career records.  Simpson leaves ranked in the top-10 in eight career categories, including No. 5 in kills (692) and No. 8 in digs (666).
