LAWTON, OKLA. – The East Central University women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with a 49-63 loss to Cameron on the road in non-conference action.
The Tigers (0-1) saw a trio of players who garnered 10+ points in the game, with freshman
Tia Williams leading the way with 14 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior
Whitney Stotler added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while sophomore
Alexa Adair tallied 13 points.
ECU opened the game with a 5-0 run and held the lead for most of the first quarter. However, the Aggies 2-0) fought back and ended the stanza with a 14-15 lead.
The Tigers again came out strong, with a 7-0 run, to start the second quarter and built the lead to 21-15. Cameron again battled back and in the final five minutes of the half went on a 15-2 run to take a 28-34 lead into the locker room.
ECU started the third quarter with a 10-1 run to regain a small 37-35 lead in the first two minutes of the half. But the Aggies put together another run to push the advantage to 44-48, with a 13-6 run to end the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw Cameron increase the defensive pressure, holding the Tigers without a field goal in the first four minutes and only allowing five points to be scored in the quarter to earn the 49-63 win.
ECU will now return home to play its first games of the year in the Kerr Activities Center and the first Great American Conference games of the season when they welcome Southern Arkansas, Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. and then Arkansas-Monticello, Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m.
