ADA – The East Central University volleyball team will be wrapping up the 2015 season this week at the Kerr Activities Center. The Tigers will first host Mid-American Christian, Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The final game of the season is set for the annual Blackout the Power of the Storm battle with Southeastern, Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
Thursday's game will also be the annual Senior Day, when ECU will honor its two seniors (
Hayley Gerken and
Sarah Simpson) prior to the start of the match.
The Tigers were busy last week, with three matches that ended with a 3-1 win over Northwestern at home. Sophomore
Alex Campbell led ECU during the week with a .357 (21k-6e-42ta) hitting percentage and five block assists. She turned up the intensity against the Rangers, hitting .478 (13k-2e-23ta).
Mid-America Christian will be playing its final game of the season when they travel to Ada Tuesday. The Evangels are 15-13 overall and went 5-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference in the NAIA. Their last match was a 1-3 loss to Oklahoma City in the SAC quarterfinals.
The Evangels are close to their opponents in all the statistical categories this season, including a .165 to .164 mark in hitting percentage. Laurel Church is the go-to hitter, with 225 kills and a .225 (225k-92e-590ta). She adds eight service aces, 53 digs and 67 (26-41) blocks. Hannah Luedtke leads a group of three other players with over 100 kills. Luedtke is hitting .319 (138k-20e-270ta) and has 790 assists, 227 digs, 45 service aces and 57 (12-45) blocks.
The Tigers own a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Evangels, including a 2-0 mark when playing at home.
Southeastern comes into the week with a 6-21 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the Great American Conference. The Savage Storm will face Oklahoma Baptist at home Tuesday before coming to town.
Southeastern trails its opponents in all but digs in the season box score, where they lead 15.4 to 14.7. The Savage Storm are led by Abby Jameson with 329 kills. However, Jameson has a .195 (329k-148e-928ta) hitting percentage, while Julia Benford is the most consistent hitter with a .315 (266k-72e-616ta) mark. Benford also adds 14 service aces, 48 digs and 60 (9-51) blocks.
ECU trails in the all-time series with Southeaster, 5-11 overall and a 4-8 mark when playing as league opponents. The Tigers have lost the last three in the series, with the last home win coming Oct. 31, 2013.
