Men’s Basketball Drops Exhibition Game at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – In the third of three exhibition games of the season, the East Central University men's basketball team fell 61-75 to UTSA.

The Tigers were led by junior Braxton Reeves, who tallied 12 points.  Fellow junior Ishmael Donzo added 10 points and five rebounds.  Senior Stirling Thomas was held to just four points, but he earned seven assists for the day.

The game started out slow, with no team making a field goal in the first 2:30, but the Roadrunners earned a point at the charity stripe.  ECU was the first to break the drought when Reeves hit a three.  The Tigers added another bucket before UTSA got their first field goal at 15:29.  ECU continued the pressure and built their lead to as many as eight points over the next seven minutes.

However, the Roadrunners fought back and used a 20-4 run over a 5:30 span to gain a 23-31 advantage of their own.  UTSA kept the pressure up and increased the lead to as many as 10 in the final four minutes of the half and went into the intermission leading 29-39.

Things started out slow again in the second half, but it was the Roadrunners who were able to take control early and built their lead out to as many as 19 in the first 10 minutes.  ECU kept fighting through the entire game and got the deficit down to 10, with two minutes left, before falling 61-75.

The Tigers will return home for the final game of the 2015 portion of the season, Friday, Dec. 18 at noon when they host Southwestern Adventist.  The game in the annual Field Trip Day at the Kerr Activities Center, with local fifth graders in attendance.
