Women’s Basketball Drop Non-Conference Match Up Against UCO

ADA – After a break for the holidays the East Central University women's basketball team fell 47-78 to Central Oklahoma in non-conference action at the Kerr Activities Center.

The Tigers (1-7) were led by junior Alexa Adair, with 14 points, two rebounds and two steals.  Junior Tori Huff added 11 points, two boards and two steals.  In just her second game with ECU, sophomore Aalyiah Blakely earned 10 points and four rebounds.  Junior Whitney Stotler led the charge on the glass, with seven rebounds.

The game started slow in the first quarter for both teams, with no one scoring in the first minute of the game.  ECU was the first to break the seal on the rim, with nine minutes left on a three from Adair.  The Tigers then held the Bronchos (9-2) without a field goal for another minute.  However, when UCO did get on the board they went on a 7-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 3-7 advantage.

ECU fought back and tied the game at seven over the next 30 seconds and kept the score close until 2:30 remained in the stanza.  That is when the Bronchos started an 8-2 run to end the quarter leading 11-17.

The second quarter was again a slow start for ECU, but this time UCO used that to outscore the Tigers 6-18 to take a 19-38 lead into the locker room at the half.

The third quarter was a tighter battle, with ECU getting outscored by just one point (16-17), but they still trailed 35-55 at the end of the stanza.

The Tigers then started the fourth quarter on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit down a little in the first two minutes.  However, UCO followed with a 6-0 run over the next minute to push the lead back out around 20 points.  The Bronchos kept the advantage around 20 the rest of the game on the way to a 47-78 win.

The Tigers will now get ready to return to Great American Conference action, Jan. 7-9 when they host Harding and Arkansas Tech.  ECU will first welcome Harding to the Kerr Activities Center, Thursday, Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. and then the Golden Suns, Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m.
