Women’s Basketball Falls at Southeastern

DURANT, OKLA. – The East Central University women's basketball team fell to arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State in the final regular-season road game of the 2014-15 season, 58-70 at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The Tigers (15-10, 11-8 GAC) were led by senior Janee Garza, who tallied 14 points, four assists and two rebounds.  Redshirt freshman Jalyn Jackson had a strong day on the glass, with 12 total rebounds and eight offensive.

ECU came out of the gates ready to fight and used a 10-2 run in the first five minutes to take control.  The Tigers pushed the lead out to 15-5 (12:50) before the Savage Storm (19-8, 12-7 GAC) started to fight back and used an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to one (17-16).

The teams battled through the next few minutes before the score was knotted at 24, with six minutes remaining in the half. The game remained close for the next few minutes before the Tigers pushed through with an 8-4 run in the final minutes to take a 32-28 lead into the locker room.

The roles were reversed in the second half, as SEOSU pushed ahead with a 16-5 run in the first seven minutes for a 37-44 advantage.  The Savage Storm continued to up the pressure in the half, going on a three-point barrage to push the lead out to double digits with 13 minutes left to play.

The game remained tight for a few minutes, but SEOSU kept pushing ahead to lead by as many as 15 on the way to a 58-70 win.

The Tigers struggle to find the basket in the second half and finished the game with a 28.8 field goal percentage for the day, while the Savage Storm ended at 50.0 percent, including an 8-of-19 mark from beyond the arc.

ECU will now return home for the final game of the 2014-15 regular season when they host Southern Nazarene at 1 p.m. in the Kerr Activities Center.  Note the game time has changed from its original 5:30 p.m. start due to expected winter weather in the area.  The Tigers will honor their five seniors (Taylor Fischer, Janee Garza, Ashleigh Kelman-Poto, Erin Walling and Dilan Webster) between the women's and men's games.
