ADA – The East Central University baseball team lost its first game of a three-game Great American Conference series to arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State, 11-15.
The Tigers (21-18, 11-12 GAC) saw six players have multiple hit games, with seniors
Ty Huie and Snick Spini leading the charge with three each. Spini added two runs and two RBIs, while
Ty Huie scored three times and sent one run home.
ECU took an early 1-0 lead in the first, with
Ty Huie hitting a triple and being sent home on a fielder's choice from Spini.
However, the Savage Storm (16-22, 12-11 GAC) countered with eight runs in the second and four in the third for a 1-12 advantage.
The Tigers cut into the lead with two runs in the third. Senior
Dustin Torres walked,
Ty Huie hit a double and Spini earned an RBI with a single. The final run came with senior
Casey Chenoweth at the plate.
ECU added two more runs in the fourth on home runs from senior
Bryce McKee and senior
Garrett Donohoe. The runs cut the lead to 5-12.
Spini started the fifth by being hit by a pitch and McKee sent him home with a double, for a 6-12 score.
SEOSU then added two runs in the sixth to push the advantage back to 6-14.
The Tigers again cut into the lead in the sixth (3) and the seventh (1) for a 10-14 disadvantage.
The teams then traded runs in the eighth, but ECU was not able to get a rally going in the ninth and fell 11-15.
The teams will conclude the series, Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m. at Ken Turner Field. The team who wins the series will earn the sixth and final spot in the 2015 GAC Championship.
