Volleyball Opens GAC Play Against Southwestern

Sophomore Taylor Turner is setting up the ECU offense this season and has tallied 216 assists.
ADA – The East Central University volleyball team will open the Great American Conference schedule Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Kerr Activities Center when they face Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m.

The Tigers (2-6) went 2-2 last weekend in their 2015 Tiger/Savage Storm Classic, which they co-host with Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Senior Hayley Gerken is leading ECU at the start of the season with a .228 (55k-21e-149ta) hitting percentage, while adding seven service aces and a team-high 19 (5-14) blocks.  Sophomore Madyson Gill is the leader in kills (75) and she adds six aces, 12 (3-9) blocks and 84 digs.

The Bulldogs (3-3) have not played since Wednesday, Sept. 9 when they defeated Texas Wesleyan (3-1) and fell to Midwestern State (1-3).  SWOSU has a team hitting percentage of .168 (265k-126e-829ta), while allowing just a .181 (256k-110e-806ta) mark.

Kelsi Schmidtberger leads the team with a .340 (43k-7e-106ta) hitting percentage and 10 (1-9) blocks.  Carly Zak has a team-best 84 kills, eight service aces and 63 digs, but she is hitting just .140 (84k-48e-258ta) attack percentage.

After Tuesday's match the Tigers will get a much needed week break before their next match at Bacone College, Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
