LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The East Central University soccer team dropped a tight match to Lubbock Christian in the final non-conference match of the 2015 season, 2-3.
The Tigers (1-5) were led by senior
Taylor Kennedy, who tallied two goals and recorded two shots on goal. Senior
Kaitie Herrin added three shots on goal and sophomore
Sammie Smith netted two.
Freshman
Chloe Hull started the match in goal for ECU, recording five saves. Senior
Taylor Lowe finished the match in her first action of the season. Lowe earned one save and allowed one goal to earn the decision.
The match was hard fought with LCU tallying 24 shots and the Tigers 11, but the deficit was much closer (8-9) in shots on goal. ECU did earn an advantage in corner, at 6-1.
The Lady Chaparrals (2-2-2) took control of the match early, scoring at 15:03. LCU went into the half with a 0-1 advantage and then added a second goal about three minutes into the second half (48:09) for a 0-2 lead.
The Lady Chaparrals then added a goal at 66:26 for a 0-3 advantage.
But, ECU didn't give up and scored three minutes later at 69:29. Kennedy claimed her first goal of the match when a fight for control occurred about six yards out from the LCU goal. She deflected an attempt by the defense to get the ball out of the area into the net for a 1-3 score.
The Denton, Texas, native cut the deficit to one (2-3) at 80:55, with her third goal of the season and second of the match. She set a shot over the fingertips of the Lady Chaparrals goalkeeper from 25 yards out into the right corner of the goal.
ECU will now get close to a week off to prepare for its first Great American Conference match of the season, when Southwestern Oklahoma State comes to Ada, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
