Volleyball Ready for Full Week of Action

ADA – After having a week off, the East Central University volleyball team will be back in action this week and it has three road matches on the schedule.

The Tigers (2-7, 0-1 GAC) will first travel to Bacone College for a non-conference match, Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.  ECU will then face archrival Southeastern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in Durant, Okla.  The final match of the week will be at Texas Woman's, Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.

The Tigers are coming off a tight 0-3 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State where they took the Bulldogs to extra points in the final two sets.  While ECU struggled to get it offense going early in the season, the Tigers pushed through and hit .248 (44k-16e-113ta) as a team against SWOSU and had three hitters with a .400 hitting percentage or better.

One of those hitters was sophomore Mackenzie Davis, who it .500 (9k-1-e-16ta).  Davis has a season attack percentage of .238 (23k-8e-63ta) and adds eight block assists.  Madyson Gill still leads the team with 82 kills, while adding eight service aces, 92 digs and 12 (3-9) blocks.

Bacone comes into the match with a 0-11 overall record and a 0-2 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference.  The Lady Warriors are hitting .072 as a team and allowing a .227 mark.

Gladymar Echeverria is the teams leader with a .234 (126k-47e-337ta) hitting percentage, five service aces and 22 (11-11) blocks.  Julianne Tuiolosega adds 85 kills, seven aces, 98 digs and six (2-4) blocks.

Southeastern is currently 2-9 overall and 0-1 in the Great American Conference.  The Savage Storm went 1-3 in the Tiger/Savage Storm Classic and faced the same teams that ECU went 2-2 against.  Southeastern is hitting .180 as a team and allowing a .247 percentage against them for the season.  They are also struggling on serve receive with 2.2 service aces against them per match and are netting only 0.8 per match.

The Savage Storm will have one chance to break their three-match losing streak before hosting the Tigers, as they travel to face Oklahoma Baptist, Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Abby Jameson leads Southeastern in kills at 136 and has a .222 (136k-52e-379) attack percentage.  Jameson has also tallied 93 digs and 12 (1-11) blocks.  Julia Benford is the most consistent hitter for the Savage Storm, with a .260 (89k-30e-227) mark, while adding four aces, 20 digs and 23 (2-21) blocks.

Texas Woman's is 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference so far this season and will face Tarleton State (Tuesday) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (Friday) before ECU comes to town.  The Pioneers are close to their opponents in most categories, but have a 2.0 to 1.6 blocks per set advantage and are hitting .216 to .143 for the season.

Hillary Shaffer is the most consistent hitter for Texas Woman's at .338 (90k-21e-204ta) and has garnered 33 (5-28) blocks.  Makayla Mayfield is an all-around threat with a .237 (114k-31e-250ta) hitting percentage, 11 service aces, 106 digs and six (1-5) blocks.
