DENTON, TEXAS – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (7-25, 13-25, 18-25) decision to Texas Woman's in non-conference action on the road.
The Tigers (3-9) saw five kills from seniors
Hayley Gerken and
Sarah Simpson and four from sophomore
Alex Campbell. Sophomore
Lily Porsa led the defense for ECU with 11 digs.
The Tigers struggled to get going in the opening set, going down 1-9 at the start of the set. The Pioneers (10-3) kept on the pressure throughout the set and took a 7-25 win.
The teams traded the first points and runs for the first 10 serves before TWU used a 5-0 run to take control of the set for good. The Pioneers used several small runs throughout to claim the 13-25 win.
The third set was closer, with both teams using longer runs to try and take control for good. TWU got the advantage in the set with an 8-0 run in the middle to push through for the 18-25 win.
The Tigers will get back to Great American Conference action, with three matches over the next week. ECU will first travel to face Oklahoma Baptist, Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The Tigers will then host Southern Nazarene, Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kerr Activities Center. The final match of the week will be at Northwestern Oklahoma State, Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.
