Volleyball Falls In Three at Arkansas-Monticello

Box Score MONTICELLO, ARK. – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 24-26) decision to Arkansas-Monticello in Great American Conference action.

The Tigers (7-18, 3-8 GAC) were paced by junior Alex Campbell, who tallied a .379 (15k-4e-29ta) attack percentage and five digs.  Junior Kaci Harrison led the team with 15 digs.

The teams traded the first four serves in set one, but the Cotton Blossoms (10-13, 6-5 GAC) then went on a 7-2 run to take control of the set for good.  ECU kept fighting but could not get more than one or two points in a two and eventually fell 17-25.

The second set saw the Cotton Blossoms again jump out to a 3-1 advantage and they never let the Tigers get closer than two points the rest of the set.  UAM used several small runs late in the set to claim the 20-25 win.

The final set was much closer, resulting in nine tie score and three lead changes.  ECU took the first advantage, using a 7-3 run to take a 13-9 lead.  The Tigers kept the lead on their side until later in the set, when UAM used a 5-1 run to tie the set at 21.  The teams traded the next eight serves before the Cotton Blossoms were able to get the final two points needed and claim the match with a 26-24 win.

ECU will now get some rest, as they will wait until Thursday, Oct. 27 for their next match.  The Tigers will battle Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla., as their lone match for the week.
