ADA – The East Central University soccer team will play its final two matches of the regular season this weekend on the road in Great American Conference action. The Tigers will first face Harding, Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. and then Ouachita Baptist, Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m.
ECU is coming off a 0-1-1 week and moved to 3-10-2 overall and 3-6-1 in the league for 10 points, two points behind Southern Nazarene. That places them in fifth in the standings, with the top four making the GAC Championship tournament.
Harding is currently third in the standings, with the match against the Tigers their last of the year. Ouachita is second and the ECU match is the last for both teams.
Sophomore
Summer Whalen had a strong weekend for the Tigers, earning a goal in each of the matches.
Harding and Ouachita will both face each other, Tuesday, Oct. 25 and if the Bisons won it would put them both in second place.
The Bisons (9-6, 6-4 GAC) have a clear 33-17 lead in goals scored this season and a 128-88 shots on goal lead. Harding has five players that have scored multiple goals. Bethany Sutherland has tallied 11 goals and two assists, while Morgan Springborn adds six goals and three assists. Jessica Woessner has seen most of the time in net, allowing 14 goals, 64 saves and earning a 6-5 record.
Ouachita is 7-7-1 overall and 7-3 in the league before Tuesday's match. The close overall record has resulted in a 15-18 deficit in goals scored and a 91-126 mark in shots on goal.
There are five players with multiple goals on the season with Kasey Smith, Dina Harper and Tessa Woodcock each leading the team with three. Erin Webster has seen most of the time in net, recording seven shutouts, allowing 16 goals and stopping 103 shots.
