DURANT, OKLA. – In the final match of the 2016 season, the East Central University volleyball team ended the 2016 season with a 0-3 (24-26, 19-25, 22-25) loss at arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Tigers finished with a 7-23 overall record and a 3-13 mark in the Great American Conference.
ECU was paced by junior
Alex Campbell, who garnered 10 kills, a .259 (10k-3e-27ta) hitting percentage, five digs and three blocks. Junior
Kaci Harrison added nine kills, 10 digs and two blocks.
The Savage Storm (13-16, 6-10 GAC) took an early 1-5 advantage in set one, but the Tigers kept fighting and tied the set at seven, with a 6-2 run. The teams then traded points and runs for six tie scores. The final tie came at 15-all, when the Savage Strom started a 4-0 run to take the lead back (15-18). ECU battled back and forced another tie at 24 to push the set into extra points, but SE pushed through for the 24-26 win.
The Tigers struggled to get started in the second set and quickly fell behind 0-5. The Savage Storm kept the pressure up and increased the lead to as many as six (6-12). ECU pushed back and was able to cut the deficit to three a few times, but Southeastern would increase the lead back out to around six. The pattern continued until the Tigers fell 19-25.
ECU came out fighting in set three and took an early 6-2 advantage. However, the Savage Storm came back strong after a time out to tie the set at seven, setting up a back-and-forth battle the rest of the set. The teams fought through seven tie scores and three lead changes before either team could take control.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, it was Southeastern that gained the momentum and used a 5-0 run for a 17-22 lead. ECU countered with a 5-1 run, to cut the deficit to one (22-23), but the Savage Strom took the final two points for the 22-25 win.

Taylor Turner moved up to the No. 2 spot on the Tigers career assists chart in 2016. Turner tallied 820 assists this year and now has 1,824 in her career. She is 1,004 behind the current career leader, Shayla May (2,828).
