WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (21-25, 22-25, 8-25) Great American Conference decision at Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The Tigers (7-21, 3-11 GAC) were paced by junior
Madyson Gill, who tallied nine kills, five digs and a service ace. Junior
Alex Campbell added eight kills and a block. Junior
Kaci Harrison led the team with 14 digs, while adding five kills.
The Bulldogs (11-15, 7-6 GAC) jumped out to an early four-point lead (3-7) and had increased the advantage to five (7-12). However, the Tigers fought back and cut the deficit to one (12-13), on a 5-1 run. ECU kept the set close for the next few serves, but a 3-0 run by SWOSU pushed the lead back to four (14-18). The Bulldogs kept the pressure on and eventually earned the 21-25 win.
The second set was a tight battle in the beginning, with five tie scores before a team could get more than two points ahead. The Tigers were the first to push ahead, using a 3-0 run after a seven-all tie. However, SWOSU didn't give up and tied the set at 13 and the back-and-forth battle continued, with eight more ties before a team could pull away. After a 21-all tie, the Bulldogs got momentum on their side and used a 4-1 run to take the 22-25 win.
SWOSU continued the momentum into set three, jumping out to a 1-13 advantage. The set then returned to a few points in a row for each team, but the lead was enough for the Bulldogs to earn the 8-25 win.
ECU will continue the weekend, Saturday, Nov. 5 at Northwestern Oklahoma State for an 11 a.m. match in Alva, Okla. The final regular-season match of the 2016 season will then be Thursday, Nov. 10 at archrival Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m.
