LIVINGSTON, ALA. – The East Central University baseball team dropped the final two games of four to No. 9 West Alabama.
The Tigers (0-9) had three players' record two hits each for the day, with junior
Trevor Huie leading the way with one run scored and an RBI on a double and home run. Junior
Thomas McGarry also earned an RBI in the games.
ECU used a total of four pitchers in the games, with sophomore
Brandon Dusenberry striking out five and sophomore
Shae Edmonds four.
The Tigers will now return home to start the Great American Conference season, Feb. 19-20 against Southwestern Oklahoma State at Ken Turner Field. A single game is set for Friday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. and a double-header Saturday, Feb. 20 at noon.
West Alabama 6, East Central 5 (8)UWA (6-1) jumped out to an early 0-2 advantage in the final game of the day, scoring a run in both the second and third innings.
The Tigers fought back in the top of the fifth to tie the game at two. After an out, junior
Kaleb Matthews drew a walk and was sent around when Huie hit his home run.
ECU then took a 5-2 lead after the top of the sixth inning. Senior
Casey Kenney and junior
Riley Roberts were both walked to start the inning. Both players then scored when junior
JT Stevenson attempted a sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error. McGarry then sent Stevenson home with a single through the left side.
However, UWA knotted the game back up at five in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs of their own.
Both teams remained scoreless through the regulation seventh inning, forcing extras.
The Tigers has a chance to score in the top of the eighth, with runners on first and second, but they were unable to score.
West Alabama took the advantage in the bottom of the inning to win the game, scoring the needed run on a single, two walks and a sacrifice fly for the 5-6 final.
West Alabama 2, East Central 0The teams played strong defense in the opening four and a half innings of the day, holding each other scoreless and stranding a total of 10 runners combined.
UWA broke through the stalemate in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits.
Defense became the name of the game through the remainder of the game for the 0-2 final.
