SHAWNEE, OKLA. – The East Central University men's basketball team remained at the top of the Great American Conference standings, with a 92-79 victory at Oklahoma Baptist. The Tigers (16-6, 13-4 GAC) are now tied with Ouachita Baptist, who defeated Harding today, but own the tie-breaker after winning both regular-season meetings.

While ECU scored the first two points of the game, the Bison (6-15, 2-15 GAC) followed with a 6-0 run to gain the advantage. The teams then traded runs through the first eight minutes of the game, resulting in an 11-13 lead for OKBU.
The Bison added a 12-4 run over the next 2:30 minutes to push its lead out to 10 (15-25). That is when the Tigers changed the momentum of the half, going on a 15-3 run over the next five minutes to take a 30-28 lead. The teams battled through the remaining 4:30 of the half and ECU went into the locker room leading 36-35.
The second half started as a tight battle, but after the first minute the Tigers went on a 5-0 run to earn a three-point lead (43-40). ECU kept the lead between two and six points over the next three minutes before a 7-0 run by the Bison gave them a 52-54 advantage.
The Tigers then went on a 13-1 run over the next three minutes to push the lead out to 10 (65-55), with 10 minutes left to play. ECU kept the advantage around 10 points until the final four minutes of the stanza when the Bison used a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to six (82-76). The Tigers kept the lead for the rest of the game and earned the 92-79 victory.
Both teams had strong shooting days, with ECU earning a 58.5 percent (31-of-53) to 52 percent (26-of-50) overall and a 50 percent (9-of-18) to 41.7 (10-of-24) advantage from beyond the arc.
The Tigers will look to continue their five-game winning streak, Monday, Feb. 15 when they battle arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla., at 7:30 p.m.
