Baseball Falls to Texas Wesleyan

ADA – The East Central University baseball team fell to Texas Wesleyan, 4-5 in 10 innings, in a non-conference game at Ken Turner Field.

The Tigers (5-17) were led by junior Trevor Huie, with three of ECU's eight hits for the day.  Junior Kodiak O'Ravez added one hit, one run and three RBIs.

Senior Casey Kenney suffered the loss on the mound, throwing the final two innings and allowing one hit and one run, while striking out three.

The Rams (13-12) were the first to get on the scoreboard, taking a 0-2 lead after the third inning.

The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, with a three-run inning.  After two outs, sophomore Dalton Etheredge reached due to an error.  Huie was added to the base path with a single to center, which allowed O'Ravez to earn two RBIs with a triple to right center.

Senior Kris Molter was walked and junior Jake McKeel picked up an RBI with a double to left center.

TWU regained the advantage in the seventh, going up 3-4.

ECU fought back and tied the game in the bottom of the ninth.  A one-out single by sophomore Jacob Cowling, fielder's choice by junior Kaleb Matthews, an error to put Etheredge on and a single from Huie loaded the bases.  That allowed O'Ravez to gain the RBI when he was hit by a pitch.

However, the Rams came out strong in the 10th, scoring when the first batter tripled and then went home due to a throwing error.

The Tigers got a base runner on in the bottom of the inning, but could not get him past first and fell 4-5.

ECU will now get ready to face Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Ark., Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19.  A single game is set for Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on slate Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

The Wonder Boys are 10-15 overall on the year and 4-8 in the Great American Conference after picking up a non-conference win against Henderson state Tuesday (4-3).

Kaleb Warden is the leader at the plate for ATU, with a .370 average, 15 runs, 34 hits and 15 RBIs.

The Wonder Boys have three pitchers with over 30 innings pitched this season.  Zach Skelton leads the team with a 2-2 record and a 5.68 ERA.  Skelton has thrown 31.2 innings, allowed 32 hits and 21 runs and struck out 31.
