ADA – The East Central University softball team split a doubleheader with Oklahoma Baptist in Great American Conference action at Tiger Field.  The Tigers (17-22, 14-14 GAC) earned a 6-2 victory in the opening game and then fell 0-1 in eight innings.

ECU was led by senior Lauren Reeves, with a .571 average, two runs and four hits.  Senior Autumn Suydam added a .500 average, with three hits, one run and one RBI.

Senior Marissa Shaffer claimed the win in the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing four hits and two runs and striking out two.

The teams will wrap up the GAC series, Saturday, April 2 starting at noon at Tiger Field.

East Central 6, Oklahoma Baptist 2
The Tigers got things started in the second inning, with three runs.  Reeves earned a single to start the inning and was sent to third on a double from freshman Madison Thompson and the bases were loaded when freshman Mariah Ewy was hit by a pitch.

Freshman Ellanee Allison earned the first RBI with a ground out to the left side and senior Taylor Davis sent the final two runs across the plate with a single up the middle.

ECU added three more runs in the fourth for a 6-0 advantage.  Taylor Davis and Suydam hit back-to-back doubles to score the first run and Suydam was able to score when she stole third and then went home due to a throwing error.

A runner got on due to an error to keep things going, but a double-play gave the Tigers the first two outs of the inning.  Reeves then hit a single and was sent around when Thompson hit a double to left field.

The Bison (13-21, 10-16 GAC) were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth scoring two runs.  No more runs would cross the plate, as ECU held on for the 6-2 win.

The second game was a defensive battle, with no runs scored through the regulation seven innings.

The Tigers struggled to get base runners in the game, with just three off one hit in the game.  OBU stranded a total of nine base runners throughout the game and recorded seven hits before a double and single in the eighth allowed the needed run to score.
