Softball Drops Doubleheader at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, ARK. – The East Central University softball team dropped a doubleheader to No. 20 Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference action.  The Tigers (24-27, 21-19 GAC) first fell 0-5 and the 2-5 to the Muleriders (39-8, 31-8 GAC).

ECU was led by seniors Lauren Reeves and Lacey Paulk, who both hit .400 for the day, with two hits.  Reeves added the two RBIs for the Tigers on the day.

The teams will wrap up the 2016 regular-season, Sunday, April 24 with a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon.

Southern Arkansas 5, East Central 2
In the second game of the day, the Tigers were the first to get on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the first.  After the first out, senior Autumn Suydam was hit by a pitch and sent to second on a single by senior Jordynn VanPelt.  Another out sent the runners to second and third, which allowed them both to score when Reeves hit a single up the middle.

ECU kept the Muleriders off the scoreboard until the third inning when they took the lead for good with three runs.  SAU added a run in both the fourth and fifth innings for the 2-5 final.

Southern Arkansas 5, East Central 0
The Muleriders got on the scoreboard in the second, with two runs and never allowed the Tigers to score in the game. 

SAU added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings for the 0-5 final.
