Soccer Opening GAC Action

ADA – The East Central University soccer team will open Great American Conference action this weekend on the road.  The Tigers will first travel to Alva, Okla., to face Northwestern, Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.  The final match of the weekend is a stop at rival Southwestern, Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.

The Tigers went 0-4-1 against non-conference opponents in the first few weeks of the season.  ECU has had a slow start offensively, with only senior Kylee Corbin tallying a goal so far.  Sophomore Chloe Hull has played all the time in net, stopping 30 shots and allowing 10 goals.

Northwestern has also had a slow start to the season, with a 0-4 record, and they will face Southwestern, Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Alva Rec Complex before welcoming the Tigers.  The Rangers have allowed 21 goals this season and have a 10-57 disadvantage in shots on goal.

Hollie Pankake has recorded two shots on goal and three shots overall to lead the offense.  NWOSU has used two goalies, with Briana Legaspi earning all four starts.  Legaspi has allowed 18 goals and recorded 34 saves.
The Tigers hold an 8-1-3 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-0-2 mark as GAC opponents.  ECU has won the last three meetings and have a streak of eight without a loss.

Southwestern is currently 3-1-1 and has outscored its opponents 28-5 and has a 76-24 lead in shots on goal.

Alimata Rabo and Sandra Nabweteme are clear offensive leaders for the Bulldogs.  Rabo has garnered 10 goals and five assists, while Nabweteme adds eight goals and four assists.  Courtney Flores is the lone goalkeeper for SWOSU, with 19 saves and five goals allowed for the season.

The all-time series is currently tied at 10-10-2, but the Bulldogs have a 2-6-1 lead when playing as league opponents and a 3-7 advantage when playing at home.
