Men’s Basketball Picks Up Eight-Straight Victory

RUSSELLVILLE, ARK. – The East Central University men's basketball team picked up its eight-straight victory, with a 94-85 win at Arkansas Tech in Great American Conference action on the road.  It marked the second time that the Tigers were able to win at both Harding and Arkansas Tech, one of the toughest road weekends in the league.

The Tigers (8-4, 4-2 GAC) saw four players in double digits in the scoring column, with senior Braxton Reeves leading the way with 29 points, three rebounds and a 9-of-9 mark at the charity stripe.  Senior Ishmael Donzo added 15 points and nine rebounds.  Senior KD Moore netted 13 points, while freshman Camron Talley contributed 10.

ECU opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Wonder Boys (7-3, 3-3 GAC) got their first points at the charity stripe.  The Tigers continued the run to 15-2 before ATU scored its first basket, with 15 minutes left in the first half.

ECU was able to keep up the pressure throughout the stanza and didn't let the Wonder Boys get to double-digits in the 10 minutes of the half to lead 33-9.  The Tigers kept the advantage around 20 points or higher the rest of the stanza and went into the intermission leading 56-38.

ATU came out firing in the second half and were able to cut the deficit to 14 (58-44) in the first two minutes of the game.  The Wonder Boys kept the pressure on and used a 13-6 run to cut the deficit to 11 (70-60), with 12:15 remaining.

The battle continued throughout the half, with ATU getting things within nine points.  The teams traded points and runs for most of the remaining time, with the Tigers making the final push to garner the 94-85 victory.

Both teams shot well, at around 44 percent overall and 36 percent from three-point range.  The key difference in the game came at the free-throw line where ECU went 28-of-34 and held ATU to a 13-of-21 mark.

The Tigers will now break up a large road swing with a single home game, Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Southwestern at the Kerr Activities Center.  ECU will then play the next three games on the road.
