ADA – The East Central University soccer team will host Oklahoma Baptist Thursday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. at Tiger Field. The Tigers will also travel to face Southern Nazarene, Saturday, Oct. 21(4 p.m.) to end the week's action.
ECU is currently tied for fourth in the Great American Conference standings with just two weeks left in the regular season. The Tigers have nine points and are tied with Northwestern and Ouachita, but are a match behind after postponing their home match against Southern Nazarene to Oct. 30.
The Tigers are coming off a week where they fell to Northwestern, but then picked up a key tie at Southwestern, who is in second in the league standings. During the matches, sophomore
Lizette Carreon tallied a goal in each match on a penalty kick.
Oklahoma Baptist has clinched a berth in the 2017 GAC Championship Tournament, with a 12-1-1 overall record and a 7-0-1 mark in the league. The Bison are seven points ahead of SWOSU in second place (22-15) and will face Southern Nazarene Tuesday. OBU has scored 31 goals on the year and allowed just 13, while outshooting its opponents 21.9 to 8.6 shots per match.
Five different players have scored multiple goals this season, with Ruth King leading the team with nine goals, seven assists and 25 shots on goal. Emily Griffith has seen all the time in net for the Bison, earning a 0.90 goals against average and a .729 saves percentage, with six shutouts.
After the loss earlier this season to the Bison, OBU now leads the all-time series 3-2-1. However, the Tigers hold a 2-1 lead when playing in Ada.
SNU is 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the GAC before their match against OBU Tuesday. The Crimson Storm are allowing 2.46 goals per match, while scoring 1.08 per match. While they are also trailing in shots per match, the difference is closer at 16.1 to 19.8.
Meagan Chase leads a group of three players who have tallied more than one goal this season, with four. Chase adds two assists and 26 shots on goal. Ashlynn Pritchett has seen most of the time in net for SNU, allowing 32 gals and recording 99 saves.
The Crimson Storm leads the all-time series with ECU at 10-4-1 overall and 7-3 when playing as GAC opponents. SNU also holds a 6-1-1 lead when playing in Bethany.
