Soccer Shuts Out Ouachita

ADA – The East Central University soccer team earned a key 1-0 shutout victory over Ouachita Baptist at Tiger Field.  The win puts the Tigers in fourth in the Great American Conference standings, with just two matches left to play for the season.  ECU is one point ahead of Northwestern Oklahoma State, who has just one match left to play.

ECU (6-6-4, 3-3-4 GAC) started slow, but ended up out shooting Ouachita (3-13, 3-9 GAC) 23-20 overall and 9-7 in shots on goal.

Junior Chloe Hull earned her fifth shutout of the season, the second most in a single season for a Tiger goalkeeper in school history.  Hull stopped all seven shots she faced.

The teams battled through a scoreless first half before ECU earned their goal at 57:45 to give them the lead.  Junior Kendall Smith intercepted a pass from the Ouachita defense in the middle of the field and sent a shot over the goalie's hands from half way into Ouachita territory.  The goal was the first on the season for Smith and the second of her career.

The Tiger defense then kept up the pressure and helped the team block or force wide five of the seven shots Ouachita took in the remaining minutes.

ECU will now get ready to host Harding, Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. for the annual Senior Day and as part of the 2017 Homecoming festivities.  The Tigers will honor its four seniors (Caroline Loyd, Sammie Smith, Amber Tiger and Deanna Rudasill) just before the start of the match.

ECU still has a make-up match on the schedule set for Monday, Oct. 30 against Southern Nazarene at 11 a.m.  The match will only be played if it is necessary to decide standings for the 2017 GAC Championship.
