WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-13) loss at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Great American Conference action.
The Tigers (7-22, 2-13 GAC) were led by senior
Diana Etienne, with 10 kills and seven digs. Senior
Madeline Mayer added a .350 (7k-0e-20ta) hitting percentage and two block assists.
The Bulldogs (12-18, 7-7 GAC) jumped out to a 4-1 advantage and pushed the lead to six before ECU fought back to tie the set at 14. The teams traded the next eight serves for an 18-all tie before SWOSU went on a 5-0 run to take the lead for good and earned a 25-21 win.
The Tigers took the early 7-3 lead in the second set and held it until the middle of the set. The Bulldogs then used several small runs to tie the set at 24 and force extra points. The teams traded the next six serves before SWOSU was able to earn two-straight points to earn the 29-27 win.
The Bulldogs took the momentum from set two and earned the first four points in the final set for the lead. SWOSU never gave up the advantage and pushed through for a 25-13 win.
ECU will play the final two matches of the 2017 season next week starting Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Northwestern Oklahoma State (6:30 p.m.) before hosting Southeastern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Kerr Activities Center.
