MAGNOLIA, ARK.- The East Central University spilt the final two games of the Great American Conference series at Southern Arkansas. The Tigers (3-10, 3-3 GAC) first dropped a 0-10 decision and then rallied to claim an 8-2 victory in the series finale.
ECU was paced by senior
Trevor Huie, with a .500 average, three hits and two runs. Junior Connor Stevens added three RBIs, on one hit and scoring two runs.
Senior
Dylan Sanchez suffered the loss in game one, striking out four in 4.2 innings. Junior
Brandon Dusenberry threw a complete game in win for the Tigers, striking out five and allowing seven hits and two runs.
ECU will now prepare for a league series at Southwestern, March 3-4 in Weatherford, Okla.
East Central 8, Southern Arkansas 2
The Muleriders (8-5, 5-1 GAC) got on the scoreboard first, with a single run in the bottom of the first.
The Tigers were able to tie the game in the top of the first on a triple by Huie and a ground-out RBI by senior
Kaleb Matthews.
ECU then took the lead in the top of the sixth, with three runs. After the first out, junior
Kade Hayes was walked and Huie doubled down the left field line.
Connor Stevenson earned two RBIs with a single up the middle and the final run was scored when Matthews doubled to right center.
SAU added a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Tigers then went to work in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to 8-2. Senior
Kodiak O'Ravez and junior
Dalton Etheredge singled and Hayes was walked to load the bases. After an out
Connor Stevenson was walked to send the first run across.
After the second out, redshirt junior
Josh Reeves earned two RBIs with a single to left. The final run scored on a single by junior
Austin LoBue.
The Muleriders got a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but were not able to get him past first for the 8-2 final.
Southern Arkansas 10, East Central 0 (7)
The teams held each other scoreless through the first three innings, before SAU was able to get three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth.
The Muleriders added three more runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to force the end of the game.
