Baseball Falls in Double-Header at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The East Central University baseball team fell in the first two games of the Great American Conference series at Henderson State.  The Tigers (8-17, 7-10 GAC) first fell 3-7 in the series opener and then 0-2 in the second game of the day.

ECU was paced by senior Kodiak O'Ravez with a .500 average, three hits, a double and a run scored.  Senior Jake MeKeel added a.400 average, two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Junior Brandon Dusenberry threw a complete second game, allowing just three hits and two runs, while striking out four.  Senior Dylan Sanchez started the first game of the day, striking out five.

The teams will wrap up the series, Sunday, March 26 with a single nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m.

HSU 7, ECU 3
The Reddies (18-9, 12-5 GAC) took an early one-run lead, scoring in the second.

However, the Tigers tied the game at one in the top of the third.  O'Ravez started the inning with a double and advanced to third on an error by the catcher.  That set up MeKeel for the RBI with a single to center field.

HSU then started to really push ahead, scoring a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth and then three in the seventh to build its advantage to 1-7.

ECU made a push in the eighth, but were only able to add two runs to the scoreboard for the 3-7 final.  MeKeel started the inning by drawing a walk and was sent to third on a double by senior Kaleb Matthews.  Both runs were then scored on a double by junior Connor Stevenson.

HSU 2, ECU 0
The second game of the day was a defensive battle, with just five total hits recorded by both teams and no scoring until the fourth inning.

The Reddies were the first to score earning a run in the bottom of the fourth on two walks, a single and a sacrifice fly.

HSU then added a run in the sixth to increase the lead to 0-2.

The Tigers got the opening runner on base in the seventh, but were unable to get him past first for the 0-2 final.
