ADA – The East Central University baseball team fell 6-15 in the final game of the Great American Conference series with Arkansas Tech at Ken Turner Field.
The Tigers (9-20, 8-13 GAC) tallied 13 hits on the day, with multi-hit games from five players. Junior
Connor Stevenson led the group with three hits, a run, RBI and home run.
Senior
Jake Wellington started the game on the mound and helped ECU garner a 5-1 lead in six innings of work. He allowed five hits and struck out four.
The Wonder Boys were the first to get on the scoreboard, earning a single run in the top of the first inning.
However, the lead was short as the Tigers countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the 2-1 advantage. Both runs were scored after the first two outs were recorded and started with a solo home run by
Connor Stevenson.
Junior
Dalton Etheredge kept the inning alive by drawing a walk and the bases were loaded with a single from senior
JT Stevenson and walk from senior
Trevor Huie. That allowed freshman
Grant Powell to earn an RBI by drawing a walk for the second run of the inning.
ECU extended the lead to 3-1, with a solo home run by senior
Jake MeKeel in the fourth.
The Tigers added one more run in the fifth on singles from Powell, sophomore
Zach Lewis and a two-run double by senior
Kodiak O'Ravez for the 5-1 advantage.
The teams were scoreless until the eighth inning, however that is when ATU took control. The Wonder Boys scored 10 runs in the inning for the 5-11 score.
Senior
Kaleb Matthews was able to score one more run for ECU with a solo home run to right field.
ATU then added four more runs in the top of the ninth for the 6-15 final.
The Tigers will now get ready for a GAC series on the road against Harding, April 7-8.
