Baseball Drops Series Finale to Arkansas Tech

ADA – The East Central University baseball team fell 6-15 in the final game of the Great American Conference series with Arkansas Tech at Ken Turner Field.

The Tigers (9-20, 8-13 GAC) tallied 13 hits on the day, with multi-hit games from five players.  Junior Connor Stevenson led the group with three hits, a run, RBI and home run.

Senior Jake Wellington started the game on the mound and helped ECU garner a 5-1 lead in six innings of work.  He allowed five hits and struck out four.

The Wonder Boys were the first to get on the scoreboard, earning a single run in the top of the first inning.

However, the lead was short as the Tigers countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the 2-1 advantage.  Both runs were scored after the first two outs were recorded and started with a solo home run by Connor Stevenson.

Junior Dalton Etheredge kept the inning alive by drawing a walk and the bases were loaded with a single from senior JT Stevenson and walk from senior Trevor Huie.  That allowed freshman Grant Powell to earn an RBI by drawing a walk for the second run of the inning.

ECU extended the lead to 3-1, with a solo home run by senior Jake MeKeel in the fourth.

The Tigers added one more run in the fifth on singles from Powell, sophomore Zach Lewis and a two-run double by senior Kodiak O'Ravez for the 5-1 advantage.

The teams were scoreless until the eighth inning, however that is when ATU took control.  The Wonder Boys scored 10 runs in the inning for the 5-11 score.

Senior Kaleb Matthews was able to score one more run for ECU with a solo home run to right field.

ATU then added four more runs in the top of the ninth for the 6-15 final.

The Tigers will now get ready for a GAC series on the road against Harding, April 7-8.
