BETHANY, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team fell in two matches in the final day of the GAC/MIAA Crossover.  The Tigers (4-9) first fell to Emporia State, 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 16-25, 18-25) and then 3-0 to Missouri Southern State, 3-0 (19-25, 13-25, 22-25) at the Sawyer Center.

ECU saw senior Taylor Turner hit the 2,000 mark for career assists during the first match of the day.  Turner is currently No. 2 on the ECU Career Assists chart with 2,028.  She tallied 35 assists on the day, while adding 12 digs, four kills and to block assists.

The Tigers were led for the day by senior Madeline Mayer, with 20 kills, a .340 (20k-2e-53ta) hitting percentage, six (2-4) blocks, a service ace and a dig.  Senior Lilly Porsa added 36 digs to lead the defense.

ECU will now get ready for more Great American Conference play, as they host Northwestern Oklahoma State, Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Kerr Activities Center and they travel to face Southeastern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

Emporia State 3, ECU 1
The Tigers fell to the Hornets 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 16-25, 18-25) in the opening match of the day.  ECU was led by Mayer and junior Karina Erreguin, who each tallied 10 kills.  Mayer added six (2-4) blocks, while Erreguin netted five block assists and six digs.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle for control, but in the final few points, ESU took control with a 7-1 run for the 25-18 win.

ECU fought back and battled strong at the start of the second set.  The teams battled to a nine-all tie, but that is when the Tigers took control for good with a 6-2 run.  ECU used a few more small runs to secure the 25-17 win.

The Hornets fought back in the third set, taking a 4-0 lead and never let the Tigers get closer than three points in the early stages of the set.  ESU kept pushing the tempo and claimed the 25-16 win.

The teams traded the first six serves of set four, but ESU went on a 3-1 run to take control of the set for good and earn the 25-18 win.

Missouri Southern State 3, ECU 0
The Tigers struggled to get going in the final set of the tournament, falling to Missouri Southern State 3-0 (19-25, 13-25, 22-25).  ECU was led by Mayer, with 10 kills, while Porsa tallied 12 digs.

The teams traded the first 10 serves before MSSU went on an 8-2 run to take control of the set before earning the 19-25 win.

The Tigers fought hard through the next two sets, but eventually fell 13-25 and 22-25 for the 3-0 loss.
