Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The East Central University soccer team made a late push, but fell in a non-conference road match at Newman, 3-2.
The Tigers (0-3) goal keepers saw a lot of action in the game, with the Jets (1-1) recorded 16 shots on goal and 26 total shots to ECU's four shots on goal and six total. Junior
Chloe Hull started the game and played the first 31:46, allowing two goals and stopping four shots. Freshman
Mollie Nance played the final 27:14, stopping nine shots and allowing a goal.
The Tigers saw the first two goals of the season scored by sophomore
Alexis Castillo and junior
Kendall Cook, while junior
Kendall Smith and junior
Summer Whalen each added a shot on goal.
The Jets started the scoring early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the match. The game would remain at 2-0 though the first half.
Newman added their third goal early in the second half (56:40) to increase the advantage to 3-0.
It took close to 20 more minutes for ECU to get going, but when they did the Tigers scored two goals in less than seven minutes.
Castillo earned the first goal of the match and the season at 71:59, when she took a shot from 40 yards out.
Cook then took a pass from freshman
Cheyenne Gragg at 78:27 and found the back of the net to get the deficit to one (3-2).
The Tigers will now return home for a match against Randall, Saturday, Sept 9 at noon. The game is part of the ECU Family Day and will also feature a reunion for the ECU Soccer Program's 20
th Anniversary.
