Soccer to Host 20 Year Reunion Saturday

2017 Soccer Team pre-game huddle.
ADA – It has been 20 years since the East Central University Athletics Department started the soccer program and this weekend, the department will host a 20 Year Reunion during the match against Randall, Saturday, Sept. 9 at 12 p.m. at Tiger Field.

Former players will be honored at half time of the match and then again during half time of the football game later that day against Southern Nazarene.

Among those attending the reunion is former head coach Heather Beam.  Beam was the second head coach for the program starting in 1998, after spending the inaugural season as an assistant coach.  She compiled a 65-110-17 record in 10 seasons, before turning over the reins to her brother, Riley Bailey.

The Tigers come into the game with a 0-3 overall record, after falling to Newman (3-2) in their last outing (Sept. 5).  The match saw ECU score its first goals of the season, with juniors Kendall Cook and Summer Whalen each earning a tally and freshman Cheyenne Gragg netting an assist.

Randall comes into this weekend's match with a 2-1 overall record.  The Saints shutout their first two opponents before being shutout in their last match.  Randall has tallied five goals on the year, from five different players and allowed seven.

The meeting with the Saints is the first in the all-time history of the ECU soccer program.

Besides the 20 Year Reunion and home football game, the soccer match is part of the annual ECU Family Day activities.
