ADA – The East Central University women's basketball team struggled in the first two quarters and eventually fell to Southern Nazarene, 70-47, at the Kerr Activities Center.
The Tigers (4-8, 3-5 GAC) were led by senior
Alexa Adair, with 18 points. Sophomore
Madison Nickens led the team in rebounds, with six, while adding two assists and a steal.
ECU got off to a slow start, allowing the Crimson Storm (7-6, 5-4 GAC) to score eight points in the first minute to take control of the game for good. SNU added several runs through the stanza to take a 21-9 lead after the first 10 minutes.
While the Tigers held the Crimson Storm scoreless for the first two minutes of the second quarter, they were only able to add three points themselves. SNU pushed through the stanza by outscoring ECU 21-12 for a 42-21 advantage after the first half.
The second half was even in scoring, with ECU keeping the advantage between 19-24 for most of the game. The Crimson Storm led 54-32 after the third quarter and the teams continued to even battle in to the fourth.
SNU increased the lead to as many as 26 in the fourth quarter, and eventually claimed the 70-47 victory.
The Tigers will now look to rebound against arch rival, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kerr Activities Center.
