ADA – The East Central University women's basketball team fell to Ouachita Baptist, 58-49, in Great American Conference action at the Kerr Activities Center.
The Tigers (4-6, 3-3 GAC) were led by junior
Tia Williams, who tallied 14 points, five rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist. Junior
Lakin Preisner added 13 points, four board an assist and a steal.
The game started out close, with the game tied at four after the first three minutes. The other Tigers (7-5, 3-3 GAC) then went on a 6-0 run over the next two minutes. ECU countered with a five-point play when senior
Devon Branch hit a three, was fouled after the shot and hit both free throws. However, Ouachita went on a 5-1 run in the remaining three minutes for a 15-10 lead.
Ouachita kept pushing and increased the run to 17-3 run over the first seven minutes of the second quarter for a 27-12 lead. The teams kept the difference around 15 points the rest of the half, with Ouachita going into the locker room with a 32-16 advantage.
Ouachita continued to increase the pressure in the third quarter and pushed the lead out to 26 (42-16) in three minutes. ECU cut the lead with a 7-0 run over a two-minute span, but were still trailing by 15 (47-32) at the end of the stanza.
ECU started the final quarter with a 5-0 run, but Ouachita countered with a 9-0 mark of their own to push the lead back to 19 (56-37) half way through. Neither team scored for the next two minutes and ECU ended the game on a 9-2 run for the 58-46 final.
The Tigers will now hit the road for an in-state GAC contest against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Weatherford.
