Men’s Basketball Second Half Surge Secures Win over Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, MO. – The East Central University men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2018-19 season, with an 88-68 victory over Southwest Baptist in the final game of the Great American Conference/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Crossover.

Scoring
  • First Half: 42-46
    • The Bearcats (1-1) took an early 4-0 lead
    • The Tigers (1-1) countered with an 8-0 run for an 8-4 lead (14:48)
    • Tied at eight a minute later
    • ECU quickly regain the lead and built it out to as many as 8 (20-12), with 10 minutes left in the stanza
    • SBU would fight back within one basket, but the Tigers would not let them take a lead and pushed the lead back to as many as eight
    • With four minutes left ECU led 32-26
    • The Bearcats fought back to tie the game at 36, with 2:24 left
    • Teams were tied at 39, with 1:16 left
    • SBU then used a 7-3 run to earn a 46-42 lead at the half
  • Second Half: 46-22
    • The Tigers came out swinging, taking a 57-50 lead, with a 15-4 run in the first five minutes
    • ECU pushed the lead out to double-digits (67-54), with 11:36 left to play
    • Lead reached 20 (78-58) with 6:44 left to play
