ADA – The East Central University men's basketball team used a 53-point second half to earn a 92-66 victory over Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference action at the Kerr Activities Center.
The Tigers (11-8, 9-6 GAC) saw five players score over 10 points, with sophomore
Camron Talley netting a team-high 21 points and adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior
Jamey Woods added a career-high 17 points, senior
Tyler Armstrong had 16, freshman
Cameron Hines 13 and junior
Marcus Lytle 12.
The game started slow, with no team leading by more than three points through the first five minutes. That is when ECU went on a 9-2 run to gain a double-digit advantage (21-11). The Tigers kept the lead between 9-13 points until the 1:30 of the stanza. The Muleriders (11-10, 7-8 GAC) then used a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to six (39-33) heading into the break.
ECU came out on fire in the second half and quickly pushed the advantage back to double-digits in the first minute. The Tigers never let off the gas and had the lead out to 20, with 8:30 left and 30 in the final 4:30 minutes. ECU lead by as many as 31 on the way to the 92-66 victory.
The Tigers will now start a three-game road trip, with two stopes in Arkadelphia, Ark., next week. ECU will first face Ouachita Baptist, Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and then Henderson State, Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.
