WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – The East Central University baseball team suffered a 25-5 loss, in seven innings, in the first of three Great American Conference games against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The Tigers (1-13, 0-7 GAC) tallied nine hits to 20 by the Bulldogs (10-5, 6-1 GAC), with senior
Bryce Dimitroff, senior
Trevor Crone and freshman
Garrett Oldham netting two hits each. Dimitroff scored once, while Oldham added a run and an RBI.
Senior
Joe Cooney suffered the loss and was one of four pitchers to take the mound for ECU.
The Bulldogs wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, recording six runs in the top of the first. SWOSU didn't let up the pressure and added nine runs in the second inning for a 15-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the third, and five in the fifth to lead 23-0 before the Tigers could get on the scoreboard.
ECU tallied all five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 23-5. Crone started the inning with a double and was run for by freshman
Dillon Mansell. Mansell advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored when Oldham singled to center.
Junior
Marcus Sonnier was added to the base path when he was hit by a pitch and Dimitroff singled to load the bases. That allowed sophomore
Dakota Washington to earn an RBI with a single to right and to leave the bases loaded. Dimitroff then scored on a passed ball and senior
Connor Stevenson earned the final RBI with a single to left.
The teams will play the double-header of the series, Saturday, March 3 starting at 1 p.m.
