ADA – The East Central University softball team got a slow start in the Great American Conference series with Arkansas Tech, falling 4-0 and 7-6 in the first two games at Tiger Field.

The Tigers (14-18, 9-13 GAC) were paced by freshman
Jacey Henry and junior
Mariah Ewy, both hitting .600 or higher. Henry hit .667, with two hits, a run and two RBIs, while Ewy added a .600 average, three hits and two RBIs.
The teams will wrap up the series, Saturday, March 31 with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
ATU 7, ECU 6
The Golden Suns (25-9, 16-6 GAC) opened the scoring with a single run in the first inning. ATU then added four runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth to take a 7-0 advantage.
The Tigers cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a single run. After the first out, junior
Chloe Wigington was hit by a pitch, freshman Megan Dake walked and Henry singled to lead the bases. That allowed Ewy to earn an RBI with a single through the right side.
ECU then came out in the sixth inning and put up five runs to cut the lead to one (7-6). Freshman
Tarah Hilton started the inning with a single, junior
Bridget Gleason was walked and junior
Aundrea Hamric singled to load the bases. The next batter was struck out, before Wigington singled to earn the first RBI and left the bases loaded.
The second out was then recorded before Henry singled up the middle to push two runs across the plate. Ewy then added a single to score the fourth run of the inning. Junior
Breecia Crawford then struck out, but because of a dropped ball on strike three she was safe at home. The final run of the game came across when Hilton reached due to an error.
Both teams then went three-up; three-down in the seventh for the 7-6 final.
ATU 4, ECU 0
The Golden Suns got the scoring started with two runs in the first inning to take the lead in game one. ATU then added two more runs in the third for a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers had a strong chance to score in the sixth inning, getting the bases filled with one out. However, the runner at third was thrown out before cross the plate and ECU ended up falling 4-0.
