DURANT, OKLA. – The East Central University baseball team wrapped up the 2018 season with a doubleheader at arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Tigers (5-37, 4-28 GAC) fell 15-11 in the opening game of the day and 10-2 in the final game of the year.
ECU saw four players hit over .400 for the day, with freshman
Dillon Mansell earning a .750 average, three hits, two runs, a home run and three RBIs. Sophomore
Cale Ridling added five RBIs, with a triple, home run, four hits and two runs scored.
Senior
Bryce Dimitroff added a .444 average, double, four hits and a run. For the year, Dimitroff led the Tigers, with a .366 average, 59 hits, 13 doubles, four home runs, 24 runs and 23 RBIs.
SEOSU 15, ECU 11
The Tigers took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior
Josh Lincoln earned a one-out walk and was sent home when Ridling homered. The bases were then loaded with walks to senior
Trevor Crone and junior
Yan-Eric Tremblay and a single from sophomore
Dakota Washington. That allowed Mansell to earn an RBI with a single and keep the bases loaded. The final run was sent home when junior
Tag Sparks was walked.
The Savage Storm (22-23, 17-15 GAC) cut into the lead with a single run in the first inning before both teams went cold for the next three innings. Southeastern then took a 12-4 lead on six runs in the fifth and five in the sixth.
The Tigers fought back with three runs in the seventh for a 12-7 score. Freshman
Garrett Oldham started the inning with singles and both scored when Ridling tripled. Tremblay added the final run with a single.
The Savage Storm counted with a run in the bottom of the seventh for a 13-7 advantage.
ECU kept pushing and added two more runs in the eighth for a 13-9 score. The bases were loaded with walks to Mansell and Oldham and a single by senior
Bryce Dimitroff. Allowing Lincoln to earn the RBI with a fielder's choice and the final run scored when Ridling singled.
However, Southeastern countered with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 15-9 advantage.
The Tigers were able to score two more runs in the top of the ninth, when Washington singled before Mansell hit a home run, but fell 15-11.
SEOSU 10, ECU 2
In the final game of the season, the Savage Storm took an early 3-0 advantage after the first inning. ECU was able to cut the deficit to 3-2 with a run in the third and fourth innings.
In the third, the run came from singles from senior
Zach Trueblood and Washington, a hit-by-pitch to senior
Connor Stevenson and a sacrifice fly by junior
Marcus Sonnier.
The run in the fourth was scored after Dimitroff doubled and Ridling singled.
However, Southeastern took control of the game in the fifth, scoring four runs for a 7-2 lead. The Savage Storm then added three more runs in the sixth for the 10-2 final.
